Dose them again, Doctor

GSE Skeptics and Liars need a fact-
suppository, maybe two or more!

There always will be those skeptics who reject convention and balk at what a majority believe/think.
We’re all aware of  “Deniers,” individuals and groups, who—despite solid evidence—continue to disbelieve and loudly say that certain events never existed or have been greatly distorted by experts and historical accounts.
Evil deniers
My “evil denier #1” are “Holocaust deniers, who try and sugar coat Nazi Germany and Hitler’s Third Reich, swearing that 6,000,000 Jewish deaths in WWII have been fabricated and that nothing of the sort happened at the hands of the Nazis. They have a secondary agenda to glorify Hitler’s Germany and vilify Jews. From Wikipedia
“Holocaust denial is the act of denying the genocide of Jews in the Holocaust during World War II.[1] Holocaust deniers claim that Nazi Germany's Final Solution was aimed only at deporting Jews from the Reich but that it did not include the extermination of Jews; that Nazi authorities did not use extermination camps and gas chambers to mass murder Jews; or that the actual number of Jews killed was significantly lower than the historically accepted figure of 5 to 6 million, typically around a tenth of that figure.[2][3][4] Because Holocaust denial is a common facet of certain racist propaganda, it is considered a serious societal problem in many places where it occurs and is illegal in several European countries and Israel

Just plain dumb deniers
There also is those who deny the US ever landed successfully on the moon and all of those astronaut pictures, flags, and videos were shot on a movie set somewhere in Hollywood or Houston, Texas.
This group should wear tinfoil hats because they defy our history books, various Administrations and Presidents, famous women and men who were part of the NASA moon landings, science, etc. etc.
These “flat Earthers” are addled and I feel sorry for them and their progeny.
Again, from Wikipedia:
 “Various groups and individuals have made claims since the mid-1970s that NASA and others knowingly misled the public into believing the landings happened, by manufacturing, tampering with, or destroying evidence including photos, telemetry tapes, radio and TV transmissions, Moon rock samples, and even killing some key witnesses.

Naïve deniers
My favorite example (close to home) is the majority in the US--BUT NOT I-- who still will not consider, despite thousands and thousands of sightings—the possible existence of BigFoot (Sasquatch), UFOs, and the Loch Ness Monster.
C’mon folks what does it take? Witnesses to the existence of all three—US commercial and military pilots, public officials, members of the clergy, and lots of plain old folks—have encountered these phenomena and all it takes is for one (or three, one per phenomenon) to be accurate and where does that put the doubters?

Fannie and Freddie dissemblers, fabricators, deniers—become hoodwinkers

As socially and intellectually regrettable as those aforementioned “deniers” are, there is a newer group—found among the Conservative “think tanks” (oxymoron?!), big banks, reactionary media, and the Republican Party--I’ll call them “GSE deniers,” who despite the work/proof of federal commissions, agencies, and prominent news people--but not enough public officials or Senators and Congresspeople—this element is bound/wedded to twisting and misrepresenting the facts that Fannie and Freddie ever were effective or successfully carried out their congressional mission to provide massive amounts of mortgage finance to low, moderate, and middle-income families and individuals in every corner of the nation in good economic times and bad.
They blather variations of the same inaccurate memes (see below), while supporting TBTF big bank successors to the GSEs, despite the latter having a more horrible mortgage abuse history than any of the actual GSE losses and far more disqualifying than anything the GSEs have done given the financial behemoths’ desire to control the nation’s mortgage market, and—here’s the clincher for me—the big banks have far grander federal subsidies than the GSEs every enjoyed.

Anti-GSE canards:
--guaranteed by the government, NO!
--never served low-income families and minority, NO!
--private gains, public losses, NO!
--financed mostly “subprime”, NO!
--caused the 2008 financial meltdown, NO!

Anti-GSE proponents fall back on the “Fannie/Freddie bad business model,” ignoring that format—with the GSEs still in unprecedented virtual operational handcuffs—has paid back the Treasury more than $280 Billion in just the past five years, and still is backing about 50% of all outstanding US mortgages, with infinitesimal mortgage credit losses in the past 10 years, save a few caused by bizarre forced Treasury accounting and its consequences applied to Fannie and Freddie. As I pointed out last week, bank mortgage losses have been 16 times those of the GSEs as measured in the last set of Treasury (Dodd-Frank required) capital stress tests.
My greatest lament is that unlike the Holocaust and moon landing anti-celebrants, the GSE crowd seems to have carried the day in Washington and manifestations of their distortions arise consistently despite the smaller number of voices and platforms that stand in opposition.
The anti-GSE memes they fire off have surface appeal to the uninformed—which, once again, unfortunately, is most of the Washington policy audience—and impact them like sermons from the Mount.
Think of most of these policymakers—and some in the media--as large, constipated i.e. elephants and donkeys, with their internal blockages not allowing their brains to process GSE facts and keeping them dumb.
For ease and certainty, part of me wished I magically could reduce to suppository form the wisdom in Tim Howard’s blog and the many excellent arguments in the gaggle of GSE plaintiffs’ lawsuit against the US Treasury, and require the Congress and media to accept that relief in the most appropriate ways to heighten their fact bases and guarantee consumption of an accurate Fannie and Freddie history.
Those conditions could require a dozen doses or more of this purgatives to get through to some of the anti-GSE fanatics/hardheads and relieve their informational distress.
What whatever it takes……!

Oh and then there is the “Orange Denier”:

--I hire the best people, i.e. Omarosa, Dr. Carson, Betsy DeVos, Scott Pruit, etc;
--My inaugural crowd was the biggest;
--Mexico is going to pay for my Wall;
--I'm the least racist person I know;
--People love my tariffs, they and I have gotten great reviews;
--I want a parade but DC says it costs too much

Please name three Democrats or Socialist who would better serve the people.

Hey Anon, keep drinking that kool-aid, Bro. I'd be disappointed if you abandoned the Orange guy now.

Bill Maloni said...

Anon--No. 2 answer.

Your hang up is you believe that DJT is serving "the people."

He's serving himself and every day brings more of that evidence. It's easy spending other people's money to fulfill his fantasies.

Ask me what I really think?

Does he now walk on water in your view? Is he beyond judgment or rebuke?

Have you ever heard him apologize or accept responsibility for anything that has gone wrong on his watch?

I guess that makes him infallible and there have been only one of those folks around, right?

So, you've just deified Donald J. Trump? Who is next Rudy Giuliani

Bill,

Please do not combine FnF topics with anti Trump venting. They do not mix at all.
It was previous administration to blame for lawless conservatorship.

Obama and Dems failed FnF shareholders with their total hypocrisy where as Trump, Trump appointees and RNC have given hopes.

Hi Bill-
At my age, I stopped drinking Kolk-Aid 50years ago and am a registered Independent. If any of those items I wrote are not accurate please let us know. I know who walked on water and am 100% sure it isn’t President Trump. Clearly he has huge flaws yet looks like he has a genuine love for our country.
Again, so we can do our due diligence, can you propose three Democrats or Socialist who would do a good job serving the people?
The new problem will be the Unions will sponsor the Democrats but the members won’t. Black leaders will sponsor Democrats but last look Trump has doubled his approval, in only two years. Everyone calls him a baboon yet his moves are razor like and strategic.
As your other readier said, I really come her for your GSE insight and commentary but can’t help rebuttaling the fake news.

Anon--I get it, you are a believer and I am not.

He doesn't love the country, he loves himself and his ego first.

As I've tried in the past, I'll consider lightening up on my Trump bashing--but it feels so good and warranted.

But when I post items in my pre-blog file on which possibly to write, the Trump gaffs and foibles outnumber the GSE items 10-1 (honest).

To previous Anon (if he/she isn't my "friend" who I now am answering), I've never been easy on the Obama oficialss re GSE matters; you are right they perpetuated the original Paulson Fannie-Freddie institutional violation.

But, BHO is gone and DJT is the President today and Mnuchin has relief (non-suppository form) within reach. I hope he employs it.

......how about those three Democrats or Socialist that you think would represent the people?

Bill Maloni said...

Sorry, wasn't ducking the question, but don't forget to answer mine, i.e. have you ever heard DJT apologize for anything he's said or done??

My candidates whom I think would do better than Trump: I would support Robert Mueller for any position, certainly POTUS; I would support Governor John Kasich in a GOP primary against DJT; I would support Chris Cuomo in a D presidential primary, not Andrew, because Chris is of the same Cuomo bloodline, a lawyer, a father, and understands national politics and has a wondeful public personna.

For several of the same reasons, I would support Attorney Michael Avenatti in a D presidential primary.

****************************************************************************

When you answer my Trump apology question, please don't use that BS DJT comment about "misusing one word" when he groveled before Putin in Helsinki.

Anonymous said...

Fair enough.
No, I never heard DJT apologize or admit to being wrong. We are all flawed.
I don’t think Mueller is interested in Politics. I a, sure he sees how he would be under a microscope. Maybe exposing some covered up deeds from his past like Trump. Kasich can’t win anything. All Cuomo’s are corrupt. That’s why he never ran. Recently Chris said that protesters are justified in violence and his brother said America was never great. Idiots.
Lastly, we go from a reality TV person in the WH to a bankrupt ambulance chaser?
My point is fortunately or unfortunately, Trump is the best person for dealing with tough issues that EVERY PREVIOUS PRESIDENT was scared to address. I see that ego he has as strength and confidence to deal with tough issues.
Even if you loathe and hate him, the accomplishments are real, measurable and humorous watching the left do EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER to try to weaken him and he just shrugs it off.

Bill Maloni said...

I see what you are saying but I don't see that as a plus or a healthy attitude/ego for an American President leading a deeply diverse nation, but a sick and broken POTUS, who just keeps winging it with no plans, no sense of history, and no intellectual curiosity.

Now, reportedly, DJT wants to remove all Russian sanctions for what reason?

What has Putin or his government done for the US but be a constant thorn in our side. But Trump wants to reward Putin and his thug alpha dogs?

******************************************************************************

I thoughtfully answer your question and you hammer my choices.

"All Cuomo's are corrupt?" Glad you are not stereotyping.

Re Avenatti versus the POTUS, I'd take Michael in a heartbeat.

Has Mueller told you he doesn't want to be President? If he thought this guy might win, again (and he might), Mueller might feel the "duty" call in his heart.

Paul said...

Billy, you are a smart person. I truly believe that. Please keep politics away. More often than not, people succumb to emotion than reason. Just my 2c.

Bill Maloni said...

Paul--thanks for the input (truly).

I am struggling with this division, looking for ways to do the "GSE thing" I've done for almost 10 years--because there are few out there who have my feel for the politics behind the GSE machinations, which really haven't changed since I worked at Fannie.

But, I Just need to express my strongly felt personal outrage at what Donald Trump has done TO our nation, its venerable institutions, its diverse and changing demography, with all of his assaults, decisions, foibles and flaws.

I just may have to start doing a second blog, dedicated to that subject, alerting emailed recipients what they are receiving Old blog or possible new blog?

Not sure if I consider changing means I fail my own citizen "profiles in courage" definition?

Again, I apprecviate your contribution.
