Calabria in no hurry to fix what the White House said needs fixing!
Despite Steve Mnuchin’s two years of passionate, periodic
preaching about this Administration’s need
to end the 11-year-old GSE Conservatorship--putting Fannie and Freddie back
in private hands with fresh capital—a specific objective also amplified by President
Trump when the POTUS addressed the National
Association of Realtors annual conference this past May, seemingly that timetable was changed last week by a rookie.
The Trump-Mnuchin policy declaration apparently has been watered down to ending GSE Conservatorship "sometime before new Federal Housing
Finance Agency Director Mark Calabria finishes his five-year term in 2024." (Emphasis, Maloni's.)
At least that’s what Director Calabria—prancing very high on his
implicit “I’m the GSE czar” horse—seems to believe and proclaimed last week to
the Reuters News Service.
In contrast to his boss, the President, and
his senior colleague, Mnuchin, Calabria expressed little urgency last week to help aspiring
US homeowners, address any GSE mission concerns, or remove the GSEs from Uncle Sam's clutches, let alone the need to follow through on what
the Trump Administration often has vowed and promised in appearances and public statements.
Is their a schism here? Are we having a failure to communicate? Did you get and read the memo, Mark?
Is their a schism here? Are we having a failure to communicate? Did you get and read the memo, Mark?
With the Director's self-created new schedule, Burger King may consider suing since the Trump
Administration’s forgotten rhetoric seems to have co-opted the hamburger chain’s “Whopper”
trademark.
Of course, saying something misleading--to pacify one
audience and doing the opposite to sooth a competing group--ain’t nothing new
to this Admin crew. In fact, it seems like standard operating procedure, with a
hint that some other nefarious group--not this White House--is blocking its
GSE path.
“It’s not you or me, but the guy behind the tree,” (to
steal a line from Senate Finance Committee legend Sen. Russell Long (D-La.), which he often used to demonstrate on what tax targets a demanding, but indifferent public, wanted Congress to levy new federal fees.
But there is no GSE advocacy group to blame here, hiding behind any homeownership
tree or anywhere else.
It’s just the Trump Treasury and the Trump FHFA which can’t
seem to get their traditional complementary acts together.
Of course, who knows where arch-GSE enemy Larry Kudlow is
lurking or even the current acting Chief of Staff of the POTUS, former OMB
Director and equally no GSE friend, Mick Mulvaney. They, easily, could be *&^%$#@ things up... because they can.
Why is Mark Calabria punching suddenly so far above his weight and dissing the
Treasury Secretary, showing little fear?
Things are July boring, so let me "Maloni-splain."
My simple answer is Mnuchin is the target of some creeps in/near the White House who covet his job or dislike him (or his actress spouse who doesn't care for DC) and think by goading
Calabria into action they’ll expose Mnuchin as not tough/smart enough to deflect Calabria or
worse lacking the WH “clout” necessary to stop the FHFA Director from poaching on
what traditionally has been Treasury’s leadership role on financial services
matters.
In a transparent defense for his possible aggrandizing hubris, Calabria points out in his Reuters interview Mnuchin is now "juggling a number of balls" (which shouldn't mean Calabria can worm in and do his GSE thing because Mnuchin is worried about the Budget, China, Iran, etc).
And what better way to make Mnuchin look bad than aiding and abetting a political wonk and newbie who has his own ideological aspirations?
Ugly form, but that's how DC works, especially under President Trump.

I think either Kudlow or Mulvaney, both with sizable but flawed egos, see themselves as possible Mnuchin successors. (But does the POTUS? Likely he does not.)
BTW, if anyone sees the Fifth Circuit judges, en banc or in pairs, tell them we are waiting, but not too patiently, for their decision which could end some of the DC GSE madness.

Your blog is full of politics, so we stopped reading it. You claim to be a lobbyist. Why not tell us exactly how and when things will pan out than just repeating what we know? Your credibility is on decline, so shore it up. Use your power (if any) to do something than just posting about your blog on ihub and google groups please. By the way your jokes on google groups are in poor taste, so stop. We know you go by DCbill, Mr Fid s sticks and post about yourself pretending someone else. Please do something or tell us something of essence and not repeat what we already know.
Bill,
That response is not from Anon #1, just sayin.
Bill, I believe Trump wants to recap and release GSEs. Or start it and make it irreversible.
I further believe he wants to start BEFORE his reelection campaign.
First Anon--
Look carefully at what you wrote...look again!
Do you think ANYTHING about the GSEs for the past 11 years has NOT been about industry/DC politics???
If you do, you are very naive.
My credibility is on the decline? When was it not?
I make no bones about my history (former, 21-year Fannie chief lobbyist), what I believe and who/what I think is right.
After more than 500 individual blogs and well over a million words, I think I can handle
both criticism and losing readers, although I don't see that reflected anywhere.
Blogging, for me, ain't a popularity contest. My goal si to see--systemically--the GSEs restored to as much of their former selves that the courts and White Hosue will allow, not a whole lot more.
Oh and for your big reveal, "MrF" and I am not the same people." He's a midwesterner who found me, after I started blogging and has been incredibly helpful to this clumsy non-techie.
With all due respect to good friend Tim and other writers, I don't think anyone has my political insight or experience. I also point out what are my interpretations or common knowledge and there for all to see.
This "Anon," remember you have the option not to read my stuff. If that's your choice I wish you health and goodwill.
But, for the near term, I am not quitting the blog.

Anon#1--Thank you and I sensed/know it

I hope so and have pointed out multiple times why ending the GSE Conservatorship would be a stone-cold winner for any party who can claim the credit. Trump has the best chance while the D's dither, run thousands of presidential candidates and argue over the
"Squad."
(Anon#1--note the Democrat criticism!! ;-))
From Maloni--
Noting, with a possible Budget agreement in place, some of the "balls" Mnuchin is juggling may go away, allowing him to recapture the GSE cudgels!!
Was and is Mark still buds with the Banking Senator, Shelby? If it walks like a duck, then it must mean that the fox is in Fannie and Freddie's' house.
Anon--
Dick Shelby--is #2, right behind Sen Crapo on Banking--but now is Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and has been busy on macro federal budget matters and, apparently, successful with the bi-partisan new deal unless DJT backs out. (Worth noting that Mnuchin had the lead for the Admin on this.)
While I suspect MC knows the Senator--having worked for him on Banking for a period--I would find it doubtful that Calabria would go to Shelby for help unless it was an "all hands" threat.
But, again, nothing surprises me in the GSE world.
Anon--Having just gotten (at my personal email) another question about Calabria-Shelby, I have to ask you what is it you think the two may be doing/working on??
Looking forward to your new blog. How you will spin the truth about the phony Weismann DNC Investigation, aka Mueller, the racist accusations against the Speaker by the far left loons in the Liberal Party and Media, the fact that Cummings who has been in office for decades (think about that) and his District is a shit hole along with other Democrats like Mad Maxine, Lewis in Georgia, Pelosi in San Fran, the loon in LA, Cleveland, Detroit and if we are honest, every major city coast to coast that is run by a Democrat. I am sure as tomorrow you will claim that many are Black and it’s Racist, a word that is used to shut down debate and has lost its true meaning.
The true racist are the entire Democratic Party who have suppressed minorities for 50 tears. Incentives for Welfare, Abortion, failing education and the most important is the total and complete failure to stop the drug flow through the southern boarder. Next up, the con game they are attempting to put on the next wave of minorities.
Corrupt.
Selfish.
Evil.

Anon#1---
Sorry, don't plan to write tomorrow anything else.
Oh, did any of the things you cite occur when Ronald Reagan, George Bush, the younger Bush, and DJT were President and the GOP ran one or both houses of Congress?
Just askin'.
(Were you or your immediate family frightened by a Black or Brown person when you were young?)
Please don't tell me that "some of my best friends....."
Anon#1--Now you've done it, you changed my mind.
I now have a new blog in draft, just awaiting one more check.
Your angry rhetoric was my muse.
I hope you enjoy the blog.
Looking forward to it. I am sure you will spin it like the rest of the Liberal Left.
You sir know nothing about me and you only assume and lablel when your debate is weak and without standing. You have hated on this President and Conservatives from day one before there was even cause. That sir is pure ideology. I’ll have a strong debate and comments for you with truth and facts if you pull the never ending race card out. It’s totally lost it’s mean.
Truth is truth. A shithole is a shithole. After almost four decades in office the truth is what you see. Finally. Get on Twitter and see all the videos and comments from Bernie, the local newspapers, TV etc. The people who live under consistent Democrats control are the worst run Cities in the country and to ev n coincided defending any politician because of their God given skin color is a disgrace.
